The best time to trim your hedges is during the winter when they’re dormant. This means you won’t risk cutting off new growths, which avoids wasting your plant’s energy. (BestReviews)
If you want to have beautiful hedges year-round, you’re going to have to work for it. Such is life. What you don’t want is to work harder than you need to or waste money on expensive hedge trimmers and costly fuel sources. Ryobi hedge trimmers fit all three bills nicely and come in multiple sizes to best fit your needs.
The best Ryobi hedge trimmer is the Ryobi 24-Inch Hedge Trimmer With Battery And Charger. It's Ryobi's biggest, most powerful trimmer; it's so strong it even rivals gas-powered hedge trimmers.
There are three types of Ryobi hedge trimmers.
Ryobi hedge trimmers either come tool-only or with a battery and charger. Most Ryobi products use the same line of batteries, so if you already have one or two and a charger, you can save yourself some money by buying only the tool. If it’s your first Ryobi tool or your batteries are old, double-check that you aren't accidentally buying a tool-only Ryobi.
There are three aspects of the blade to consider.
Even battery-operated hedge trimmers can create a high amount of noise. Just because it’s not dangerous to your hearing doesn’t mean it isn’t unpleasant, so consider a Ryobi with noise reduction.
They can cost as little as $50 to as much as $300. Shrubber trimmers typically cost no more than $75 while most hedge trimmers, pole or otherwise, cost no more than $200. Ryobi tool bundles that include a hedge trimmer typically cost $200-$300.

Ryobi 24-inch Hedge Trimmer With Battery And Charger: available at Home Depot
Our take: If you have some major work to do, you need the strongest Ryobi.
What we like: The blade has a 1-inch gap and can chew through all but the thickest hedges. The handle rotates to make holding it easy at any angle. The debris remover pushes aside the branches as you slice through them.
What we dislike: Some consumers found it too heavy to use for long. Others had issues with their battery failing to connect.
Ryobi One+ Grass Shear And Shrubber Trimmer: available at Home Depot
Our take: This small-sized tool combo is perfect for those with small hedges.
What we like: The grass shear is 4 inches long and perfect for carefully trimming your yard around areas your lawn mower can't or shouldn't reach. The shrubber is 8 inches long with a five-sixteenths inch blade gap. Both tools can be swapped seamlessly on the included handle.
What we dislike: It doesn't include a battery or charger; you need to already have them or need to order them together. It's too small for more than a hedge or two.
Ryobi 18-inch Pole Hedge Trimmer With Battery And Charger: available at Home Depot
Our take: This is perfect for trimming hedges too tall to reach without a ladder.
What we like: The blade has a five-eighths-inch gap and the pole can telescope up to 8 feet long. The head pivots between several angles to make trimming easier and it has a variable speed trigger so as not to chew too powerfully through delicate hedges.
What we dislike: Some consumers noted it can be difficult to wield at certain angles and because of its weight. The battery lasts up to an hour at best.
