The Chainsaw Man manga series has returned with Part 2, introducing readers to Asa Mitaka and the War Devil that possesses her.

After an exhausting 18-month hiatus, Chainsaw Man is finally back with more epic manga content.

The iconic horror manga series has experienced an incredible surge in popularity since the conclusion of Part 1 in 2020 thanks to the confirmation of an anime adaptation by Studio MAPPA.

However, all eyes are now back on Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man manga, which recently introduced the new antagonist Asa Mitaka and her War Devil.

In December 2020, the Chainsaw Man manga series released chapter 97 “I, Love, Chainsaw” – which was set to be the conclusion of Part 1.

Thankfully, over 18 months later the hit manga series has finally returned to weekly releases, with chapter 98 launching on Tuesday, July 12th.

Readers can access new chapters via Viz Media and Manga Plus, where the first three and latest chapter is available to read for free in English.

Accessing the entire catalogue of published material will cost new users just $1.99 a month, with Manga Plus also available to download via the App Store and Google Play.

In chapter 98 of the Chainsaw Man manga series, we were introduced to Asa Mitaka and the War Devil which possesses her.

Mitaka is a high school student of average build with long dark hair; which was in twintails before becoming the host to the War Devil.

She is an unassuming and quiet girl, frequently wishing for the death of her classmates – even when they offer to become friends. Her hatred for society is only outmatched by her hatred of Devils, who killed and ate her parents when she was a young child.

However, she becomes brash, confident and loud when possessed, Mikata also barely flinches when executing those unfortunate to cross her when hosting the War Devil.

The War Devil itself appears as a dark-coloured bird and is a member of the Four Horsemen, embodying the fear of war and conflict.

The War Devil, when being hosted by Mitaka, is extremely fast and strong – with the ability to create deadly weapons out of human bodies and body parts, including the horrific Spine Sword.

They also hold the power to be revived in hell, essentially making the War Devil immortal, if they cannot drink enough blood to restore their health.

With Mitaka and the War Devil now becoming characters that are canon within the Chainsaw Man universe, it’s a safe assumption that the two will eventually debut in the upcoming anime adaptation.

The MAPPA-produced series is set to premiere in Fall 2022 but as the total number of episodes in season 1 has not yet been confirmed, we don’t know how much of the manga will be covered.

In all likelihood, MAPPA will not adapt enough of Part 1 of the manga in season 1 of the TV series to introduce Mitaka and War Devil.

However, we can expect MAPPA to be relatively strict with adhering to the original source material. Considering that Mitaka and the War Devil will be central characters in Chainsaw Man Part 2, their inclusion in the anime series is only a matter of time – likely season 2.
